Kooltuin is a quiet street along a canal in the old centre of Alkmaar. With the somewhat less quiet local Red Light District on the other side of the canal. I start from Kooltuin 7A in the early morning hours of Tuesday 5th June. Walk the Mercian the few metres along Kooltuin to the lift bridge crossing the main canal. The best place for cheese museum photographs, with the cheese market and the town square to the right of the museum. Mount the bike, navigate the narrow streets and difficult corners of Alkmaars old town, and slowly move on in the general direction of Heiloo and Ijmuiden and eventually France. Aix is the target destination around June 25th some time. Also see The thin orange line
